The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Were Misnamed!

Donatello should have been named Leonardo.
This turtle was always known to be the most tech-savy of the brothers. He designed all sorts of different weapons and devices to help the team. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452 - 1519) was similar, having been not only a masterful painter, but a visionary engineering genius.

Leonardo should have been named Donatello.
Leo was the de facto leader of the turtles. Donatello (1386-1466) was one of the earliest revivalists of the classical arts during the Renaissance. Some consider him a leader and initiator of the period, given his numerous famous disciples.

Michelangelo should have been named Raphael.
The orange guy was the most sociable, goofy, and fun-loving of the brothers. Similarly, Raphael (1483 - 1520) the painter, was a social butterfly who took many lovers (and to the best of my knowledge, possibly died of a STD). He had an amiable, jolly personality and he enjoyed life to  the fullest.

Raphael should have been Michelangelo.
Both these guys were introverted, quick-to-anger, brooding, and kind of "emo." Among the turtles, Raphael was always known to have deep emotional troubles and disturbances. He appreciated solitude. The genius sculptor (and painter), Michelangelo (1475 - 1564), was a lot like this. He spent most of his time alone and showed periods of depression, angst, and moodiness.
